Robbie Rudolph, state secretary of the Executive Cabinet and Gov. Ernie Fletcher's running mate, and Sen. Damon Thayer, R-Georgetown, surprised the council with two checks toward the forward progress of the Scott County campus of Bluegrass Community and Technical College. The council expected to receive a check of $80,000 in Kentucky Infrastruc_ture Authority funding to provide sewer infrastructure. The other two checks are, according to a press release from Gov. Fletch_er's office, one for $234,600 in GOLD community funds for infrastructure up_grades and another for $452,000 to fully fund the road to the future BCTC site.
The money is just another step toward opening Scott County's BCTC campus, Thayer said.
"I want to thank Gov. Fletcher for providing these discretionary funds, which will allow the city to be provided with infrastructure improvements to the Lane's Run Business Park. Together with the $1 million in planning funds allocated by the General Assembly in 2006, we are now one step closer to the BCTC Georgetown campus becoming a reality."

On-line Courses and Flexible Lab Hours
The Advanced Technology Center offers many on-line courses in the Industrial Maintenance Technology program. On-line classes allow the student to work at his/her own pace. The student’s work is monitored by an instructor who is ready to assist and help the student gain a clear understanding of the material. Although the course work is maintained at the student’s schedule, a time frame for completing the course is given to help motivate the learning process and give the student a goal for completion of the course.
The student schedules his/her lab time in conjunction with the instructor. This option allows the student the flexibility of planning around any work schedule the student may have.
Open Entry Courses
The Advanced Technology Center is developing courses that are structured in a modular format allowing the students to enter and complete at times other than the traditional semester format. This format allows for more flexible schedules for students.
Manufacturing Model Learning Environment
Classes and lab work are held in a manufacturing style learning environment. From the beginning the student experiences working issues while learning. The opportunity to learn skills in the real environment trains the student in how work is done.
