Frequently Asked Questions for Parents

How do I contact the school for general information?

For general information about BCTC, you will want to contact our main line at 1.866.774.4872.  Based on your inquiry, the operator can direct you to the appropriate person on the appropriate campus.  Answers to most of the general information questions can be found on our website at http://www.bluegrass.kctcs.edu/ .

Where can I find information about housing and food services costs?

Housing and food services costs can be found by visiting UK’s housing website and UK’s Food Services website.

Is there a payment plan option I can use to pay for tuition?

There are several payment plan options available to you.  Please contact the Business Office at 1.877.774.4872, Ext.56270.

How much is tuition and when is it due?

Tuition is assessed per credit hour.  For the fall 2007 adn spring 2008 terms, if you are a KY resident, tuition is $115 per credit hour.  If your student is a non-resident, tuition is $345 per credit hour.

If your student is a Cooper campus student, they will have the option to purchase UK student services, including housing, student health insurance, sporting events and intramural sports.  Further information coming soon.  Tuition is due in full by August 3, 2007. For students registering after August 3, fees are due in full on August 24, 2007.

Where can I get information about Financial Aid and scholarships?

Financial aid and scholarship information is available from the Office of Financial Aid. Here you will find a link for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as well as a scholarship application.

Where can I find information about Health Services for my student?

You can find Student Health Services information on the UK Student Health website. This option is available to students taking classes on the Cooper, Regency and Winchester campuses.

Can I obtain a copy of my students’ grades?

Due to the Federal Education Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA), we are unable to share your student’s grades with you.  If your student would like to share their grades with you, they can complete the FERPA form in the Records Office in 203 Oswald Building, Cooper Campus or the One-Stop, Building C, Leestown Campus.

Will my student’s courses transfer to a four year institution?

BCTC provides course work that is transferable to the University of Kentucky and other four-year institutions. The pre-baccalaureate program is generally equivalent to the first two years of the curriculum leading to the Bachelor’s degree.  You can find more information about transferring to a four-year college by visiting our Transfer Center.  You can reach them at 859.246.4620.

What if my student is not proficient in a certain subject area?  Where can they go for help?

Student Support Services is available to all students.  These services include free tutoring, as well as study skills help.  Counselors are also available to speak with students regarding academic or personal issues.

How long will it take my student to complete their degree?

An Associate Degree program traditionally takes a full time student two years to complete.  Our Associate Degree programs include transfer degrees and technical/professional degrees, many of which can also transfer to four-year degree programs.  A Diploma program is designed to prepare students for employment in a specific technical field in one to two years.  A Certificate can be earned in as little as one semester, depending on the program.  Certificates are primarily offered in technical programs.
