Project Title:
Improving Student Services through the establishment of a
Transfer Center
Project Goal:
To improve the transfer rate of Bluegrass Community and
Technical College (BCTC) students to four-year institutions by
expanding services through a transfer center.
Project Design:
A “transfer center” will be established to serve as a resource center
for BCTC students. The Transfer Center is located on the BCTC Cooper campus in Lexington, KY and includes advising offices, student computer stations, and a reception area. Interactive kiosks will be located at other campuses to make transfer information readily available to all students.
This transfer center is the first one located at a community college in Kentucky, and will build on the successes of model transfer centers developed in California and Illinois.
Overview of Transfer Center Activities:
- Provide improved advising services with early and accurate information
regarding transfer possibilities and requirements for different fields of study; - Establish a student-to-student mentoring program between BCTC students and
university students, with particular emphasis on African-American and Hispanic
students; - Increase the number of written articulation agreements between BCTC and four-
year institutions to smooth the transfer process; and - Develop processes to improve tracking of BCTC students who transfer to other
institutions.
