The unique role of Faculty and Staff

  • The opportunity to transfer is open to all BCTC students - regardless of program.
  • The research consistently shows that faculty and staff play a vital role in influencing students' educational aspirations.  One small question, "Have you considered earning a bachelor's degree?" can change a student's life forever.
  • In a study of students from community colleges on both the east and west coasts, Pak et al (2006) found what we already know - that faculty and staff are essential in giving students the confidence and academic preparation they need to successfully transfer.
  • Encourage students to visit or contact the Transfer Center.  We can provide information that can break down the common barriers of transfer.

Transfer Center Services

The Transfer Center serves as a resource to BCTC faculty, staff and students. We can:

  • Provide specific information about course equivalencies, major requirements and applications
  • Contact four-year institutions to track down answers to those unique questions students always seem to ask
  • Provide individual transfer advising to students by phone, email, or in person

Our website provides:

  • Up-to-date answers to frequently asked questions about four-year institutions
  • Links to four-year institutions
  • Links to KCTCS and BCTC articulation agreements
  • The General Education Transfer Policy
  • Information about transfer scholarships for KCTCS students

Transfer Advisors provide information and advising that supplements students' regular appointment with their advisors.  We're not academic advisors. We can't:

  • Lift a student's advising hold
  • Advise a student for completion of his/her associate's degree
  • Evaluate transcripts from other institutions

Bluegrass provides a strong education foundation for students

  • In the last four years, BCTC students successfully transferred to more than 50 institutions.
  • More UK and EKU transfer students come from Bluegrass Community & Technical College than from any other school!
  • Bluegrass students succeed when they transfer! BCTC students who transferred to UK in fall 2005 earned an average GPA of 2.86 in their initial year at UK.
  • The BCTC Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions, both public and private.
  • Students who earn the A.A. or A.S. at Bluegrass are "General Education Certified". This means they have met the general education requirements at all Kentucky public universities.
