Veteran's Benefits
Can I use my VA educational benefits at BCTC?
Yes. BCTC is approved for the enrollment of veterans and eligible persons to receive Veterans Educational Assistance Allowances. To apply for benefits, please complete Form 22-1990 (Active Duty, Reserves, or National Guard) or Form 22-5490 (for survivors and dependents educational assistance).
Who should I contact about using my VA benefits?

How long does it take to get my benefits started?
The application process will take 12-14 weeks. Students will not receive payment from the VA until the application process is complete. After that, students must complete and submit a “Schedule Information Card” each semester to their VA certifying official (see above) to continue using VA benefits. VA processing of certifications could take 10-12 weeks.
What courses can I take?
Only courses/credits that apply toward completion of the student’s academic program can be certified to the VA. It is the student’s responsibility to become familiar with his/her chosen academic plan to ensure that he/she is taking only those courses that count toward graduation. If the student is unsure, he/she should check with his/her advisor or VA certifying official.
What if I need to change my major?
The VA allows students one change of major. To change a major, please see your VA certifying official to complete Form 22-1995. If a student changes his/her major a second time, the VA will require career counseling.
What other responsibilities do I have?
Title 38, United States Code, sections 1674 and 1724 require that educational assistance benefits to veterans and other eligible persons be discontinued when the student ceases to make satisfactory progress toward his/her training objective. Standards of progress with respect to probation, suspension, graduation, etc. are published in the BCTC catalog.
Who should I contact if I have questions about my VA benefits?
Students should contact the Department of Veterans Affairs at 1-888-442-4551 or visit the website: www.gibill.va.gov.
