BCTC partners with High School Counselors to form Advisory Board

 Admissions Newsletter Spring 2007 (PDF)

 Admissions Newsletter Spring 2006 (PDF)

 Admissions Newsletter August 2006 (PDF)

The High School Counselor Advisory Board is a diverse group of Kentucky high school guidance counselors who will advise the Office of Admissions on various issues related to the college admission process and recruitment.  Quarterly luncheon meetings will provide a forum for discussing current educational trends, learning about new programs, and the opportunity for counselors to give BCTC feedback on new recruitment initiatives.  Our hope is that each counselor will serve a three-year term.

Members of the current Advisory Board include:

  • Ms. Yvette Thompson - Bryan Station HS
  • Ms. Cathy Carter - Harrodsburg HS
  • Ms. Dolores Meaux - Lafayette HS
  • Ms. Jamie Worley - Model Laboratory HS
  • Ms. Donna Wilson - Montgomery County HS
  • Ms. Maria Lyons - Scott County HS
  • Ms. Dianne Crouch - Tates Creek HS
  • Mr. Jim Brown - Woodford County HS
  • Ms. Joretta Crowe - Frankfort HS
  • Ms. Bonnie Barnes - Henry Clay HS
  • Mr. David Oney - Anderson County HS

Our first meeting is scheduled for September.  We plan to include ideas and updates in future newsletters to keep you informed about the progress and suggestions of the Advisory Board.

We no longer require a $20 application fee.

BCTC breaks ground for new Winchester Campus

Bluegrass Community & Technical College celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Winchester-Clark County Campus on Tuesday, June 27, 2006.  The campus site is located in the Winchester-Clark County Industrial Park.

The new campus will be a 23,000 square foot facility on a 20-acre site. The building will include a child development center, two biology/chemistry laboratories, nine classrooms, computer labs, business/student services office, and wireless computer access.  The campus will offer both academic and technical training.  The target date for classes to begin is January 2008.

Like all BCTC campuses, this campus will provide course work that is transferable to the University of Kentucky and other four-year institutions. Winchester students will have many resources to help themselves prepare for a seamless transition to a bachelors degree program, such as the BCTC Transfer Center.

“In 2000, we opened the doors of an extended campus site in Winchester with 32 students. On June 27th, we break ground on a wonderful new facility in the new industrial park that will serve students in the Winchester-Clark County area for many years to come.” said Dr. Jim Kerley, President/CEO of Bluegrass Community & Technical College. “Support from this great community has been overwhelming and we are truly grateful.”

BCTC & EKU start Lancaster Higher Education Center

Officials from Eastern Kentucky University and Bluegrass Community and Technical College joined local officials and state legislators Wednesday, June 21, in dedication ceremonies for the Lancaster Higher Education Center, located on the Public Square in Lancaster.  EKU and BCTC will offer classes at the Center beginning this fall.

A needs assessment survey had demonstrated substantial interest in such a center, to include courses in education, nursing and business, and private and public funding was secured for the lease and operation of a facility for an initial two-year period.

Be sure to look for forthcoming information regarding fall classes!

Access to the University of Kentucky

Students have continued access to both BCTC and UK facilities and services.  Not only are students able to take classes in a supportive, smaller environment but they also have access to a big school’s resources.  Encourage BCTC students to take advantage of the many cultural, educational and social activities offered at the University of Kentucky.  Students also have the opportunity to work out in the
Johnson Fitness Center, study in the W.T. Young Library and cheer on the Wildcats basketball team from the student section of Rupp Arena!  Access to the student center, UK residence halls, student health services and computer labs is also available.

NOTE: All of these resources are available to BCTC students enrolled in at least six credit hours at the Cooper Drive, Regency Road or Winchester campuses. For more information, please contact the Office of Admissions.

Please encourage your students to come see what sets Bluegrass Community and Technical College apart from other schools!  Students can contact the appropriate campus

To be eligible, students must be a junior or senior.  A downloadable copy of the course enrollment form is available online.

If you need additional materials such as applications, view books or UK housing information, please visit www.bluegrass.kctcs.edu to submit a request or call the BCTC Office of Admissions at 859.246.6210 or 859.246.6757.

6 Step Enrollment Process

At Bluegrass Community and Technical College, we want to make the admission process as smooth as possible for our students.  We hope that you will assist us in our efforts to provide great opportunities for students to be successful!

Step 1: Apply for Admission & Send Transcripts
Students may complete an application in the Admissions Office or apply online 24 hours a day at http://www.bluegrass.kctcs.edu/.  Please remind students to send official transcripts from their high school and/or any college they have attended to the Admissions Office.

Step 2: Financial Aid
Students can apply for aid before OR after they are admitted to the college, and there are financial aid resources available to help make college more affordable for every student.  BCTC has many scholarship opportunities and also accepts KEES money.  Encourage your students to apply online at fafsa.ed.gov or contact the Financial Aid Office at
859.246.6300 for more information.  The BCTC FAFSA school code is 005244.

Step 3: Attend Orientation
Once students have applied for admission, they will receive an acceptance letter that will instruct them to call and schedule an orientation date.  Orientation is required for all new freshmen and it will answer many questions about BCTC.

Step 4: Meet with an Advisor & Placement Testing
When scheduling their orientation date, students also have the opportunity to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor.  Advisors will guide students through the process of choosing classes and registering.  During the advising session students may also take the COMPASS, which is a computerized placement test.  The initial test is free and a $20 fee will be assessed for each subsequent test.

Step 5:  Pay
At this point students need to pay tuition and fees to the Business Office.  This may be done through the mail, in person or online at http://www.bluegrass.kctcs.edu/LCC/BUSAFFAIRS/

Step 6: Attend Classes
It is now time to start classes at Bluegrass Community and Technical College!
