Nursing Programs

With a nation-wide shortage of healthcare workers, the career outlook is excellent for the nursing field.  In the present market, job opportunities for nurses in all areas are plentiful.

Bluegrass Community and Technical College offers several options in nursing education.  We have an Associate Degree of Nursing (RN) Program, a Practical Nursing (LPN) Program, and a Nurse Aide Program.

We are currently developing many exciting projects which will enhance all our programs, including online learning opportunities, a Nursing Career Lattice Program, and a night and weekend ADN program which is began on our Lawrenceburg and Danville campuses in fall 2007.  Many of these offerings are being made possible by grants we have recently received from the Bluegrass Area Development District (see press release) as well as one from the United States Department of Labor (see press release).

Nurse Aide program to open at Winchester Campus

When Bluegrass Community and Technical College opens its new Winchester campus next month, it will also roll out a new course to train nurse aides.

There are still seats available in the Nurse Aide Classes for summer and fall at the new Winchester campus in addition to the Cooper and Leestown campuses in Lexington, and at our Danville and Lawrenceburg campuses.  In addition to being a great class in itself, leading to employment opportunities, it is also a prerequisite for other programs.  More...

Nursing Student Resource Center Now Open

As part of the BRAIN (Bluegrass Regional Advancements and Innovations in Nursing) project, the Nursing Student Resource Center (NSRC) is now open.  The NSRC is located in A-201 on the Leestown campus, and is available to any student in a Nursing Program at BCTC.  The purpose of the center is to offer extra help to nursing students with their coursework via one on one tutoring, group sessions, and supplemental instructional materials and resources such as books, DVDs, computer programs, etc.  Students can visit the center on a walk-in basis or by calling the Coordinator, at 246-6725 for an appointment.  Click here for Spring 2008 schedule.
We are pleased to welcome Renee Felts as the Coordinator of the Nursing Student Resource Center.  Renee is a 1997 graduate of the ADN program at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU).  She has worked in Medical-Surgical, Pre & Post Operative at St. Joseph Hospital as well as in the Cardiac Cath Lab and post CT surgery at the University of KY.  Renee is currently pursuing a BSN from  EKU and hopes to complete her MSN within the next five years.
