Information on Astronomy Observations held by BCTC

You will find here a list of planned observations. Although these events are scheduled specifically for BCTC students enrolled in astronomy classes at the college, visitors are welcome. Most observations will be scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday.

Unless otherwise indicated, all observations are held at the UK arboretum. We usually meet within a triangle defined by the parking lot, the main building, and the large UK water tower.

Here is a look at the current viewing forecasts. These are gotten from the Clear Dark Sky Website.

If under "cloud cover" it looks blue for the evening in question, it is probably a go, but check the status below on the evening of the observation for certainty.

Check this link frequently; at times there may be very little lead time.

What we saw: We looked at tight clusters of Stars, among other autumn sky features.

Monday, Sept. 28th. Moon Observation, 8:30-10:00PM

What and When: Moon Observation, 8:30pm-10:00pm
Details: During 1st quarter and a bit beyond is a great time to look at the moon. It's high in the sky during the early evening hours, and the long shadows near the terminator allow one to visualize some relief.

Mon. 8/31 8:00-10:00 Jupiter and Summer Triangle

When: Monday, Aug. 31 from 8pm to 10pm.
What was seen: We looked at Jupiter, her moons, and also look at the summer triangle.
