Purpose
The purpose of the Mentoring Program is to promote, enhance, and facilitate the academic success of each student participant by providing for them a network of academic and social support consisting of faculty, staff, and students of Bluegrass Community & Technical College along with community professionals and volunteers.
Goals
- The Hispanic Outreach Mentoring programs will Provide interactions among students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.
- Implement programs and workshops that will facilitate student development, personal growth, and academic success.
- Maintain outreach and develop relationships among students and mentors that will enhance the well-being, retention, development, recruitment, and success of Hispanic students at Bluegrass Community and Technical College.
Responsibilities
- Mentors will assist mentees in getting accustomed to the college and getting involved with on campus activities.
- Mentors will provide their students information on academic campus resources and opportunities available and will encourage them to utilize these services when applicable.
- The Hispanic Outreach Mentor Program will pair students with students, faculty, staff and other community members based on shared interests and career choices.
- Mentors and mentees will be required to meet 4 times during the semester.
How can I participate?
If you are a student:
- Fill out the participant application.
- Attend the Academic Success Workshop and the Mentoring Program Orientation.
Set a schedule with your mentor. You must meet 3 times a semester and attend one cultural/academic event and one social event sponsored or hosted at the college.
If you are a mentor:
- Fill out the mentor application and decide if you would like to be a “full-time mentor” or a “professional advisor”.
- Attend the Mentoring Program Orientation.
- If you are a mentor, you must meet with your student 3 times a semester and and attend one cultural/academic event and one social event sponsored or hosted at the college.
If you are a professional advisor, you must be available to talk to students about your profession.

El propósito del programa de mentores para los estudiantes latinos es promover, aumentar y facilitar el éxito académico y social de los estudiantes que participan por ofrecerles una red de apoyo académico y social que consiste en el profesorado, el personal docente y los estudiantes de Bluegrass Community & Technical College junto con profesionales y voluntarios de la comunidad.

Responsabilidades
- Los mentores le ayudarán al participante acostumbrarse y involucrase en el colegio y las actividades ofrecidas en el campo.
- Los mentores le ofrecerán al participante información acerca de los recursos académicos y las oportunidades disponibles y le animará a utilizarlos cuando sea necesario.
- El programa de mentores unirá el participante con estudiantes, profesores, personal docente y otros miembros de la comunidad basado en intereses comunes y selección profesional.
- Los mentores y los participantes tendrán que reunirse 3 veces cada semestre.
Cómo participar?
Si es un estudiante:
- Llene una aplicación de participante.
- Asiste el taller de “ÉXITO ACADEMICO” y la orientación del programa de mentores.
- Fije un horario con su mentor. Hay que reunirse tres veces cada semestre y tienen que asistir a un evento cultural/académico y un evento social patrocinados por BCTC.
Si es un mentor:
- Llene una aplicación de mentor. Decida si quiere ser un mentor de tiempo completo o un consejero profesional.
- Asiste la orientación del programa de mentores.
- Si es un mentor, tiene que reunir con el estudiante 3 veces cada semestre y acompaña a l estudiante a un evento cultural/académico y un evento social patrocinados por BCTC.
- Si es un consejero académico, tiene que ser disponible de hablar con estudiantes sobre su profesión.
