Press Release - September 14, 2009
BCTC Community Garden receives funds from Kentucky Agricultural Development Board LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 14, 2009) - The Peace Meal Gardens, a community garden at Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC), recently received $3,000 from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board. “It will allow us to move forward in implementing our plans for the garden, including an orchard, berry bushes, a wider variety of heirloom vegetables, multi-season plantings, and experimental plots,” said Rebecca Glasscock, a BCTC associate professor of geography who applied for the grant. The two-acre garden, located on Leestown Campus, was among 18 proposals that was approved at the agricultural development board's August business meeting. The public, community groups and volunteers are invited to grow crops at the garden or learn about ecological gardening. Fresh produce from the garden is being sold weekly at the Cooper and Leestown campuses. For more information, contact Rebecca Glasscock at (859) 246-6139. |
