Press Release - May 5, 2009
2009 Kentucky Small Business Person of the Year will be Commencement Speaker at BCTC Graduation
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 5, 2009) – Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) will hold commencement exercises 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9 at the Frankfort Convention Center, 405 Mero Street in Frankfort. The ceremony will recognize approximately 2,028 students receiving degrees, diplomas or certificates for the 2008-09 academic school year. BCTC President Dr. Augusta A. Julian will preside over the commencement of graduates from the six BCTC campuses. Thomas E. Masterson, president of T.E.M Electric, Inc. in Louisville, will be the commencement speaker. Masterson has served as the president of the BCTC Alumni Association and continues to be a steadfast supporter of the college. Masterson has recently been honored as the 2009 Kentucky Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. During the commencement exercises, Dr. Julian will also recognize the family of Brandon Plummer, a BCTC welding technology student who passed away in a vehicle accident January this year. He was scheduled to graduate with a welding technology associate’s degree in summer 2009. “By going to school fulltime and working fulltime, Brandon showed me that he had a lot of heart and dedication to complete his goals in life,” said Bobby Coffey, an associate welding professor. “Brandon set high standards that inspired all students to stay motivated and to overcome challenges in school.” The family will receive several welding certificates that Plummer earned while he was a student at BCTC. |
