BCTC Associate Professor Pens History of Lexington Community College
LEXINGTON, KY (October 7, 2008) – December 2005 marked the end on a long history of Lexington Technical Institute (LTI) later named Lexington Community College’s (LCC) relationship with its parent institution, the University of Kentucky. Rick Smoot’s new pictorial history of the college commemorates and celebrates the achievements of the last forty years. Titled, The University of Kentucky Lexington Community College, 1965 -2005: A Pictorial History, and published by Donning Company Publishers, the book is filled with nearly 200 photos and other images and numerous historical facts with a side by side history of the development of two-year postsecondary institutions in the United States and Kentucky. Richard (Rick) Clayton Smoot is a native of Ashland, Kentucky, where he attended the public schools and graduated from Paul G. Blazer High School. After attending Ashland Community College for two years, Rick went on to earn a liberal arts bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in history from Marshall University, and earned his doctor of philosophy degree in history from the University of Kentucky. Presently, he is an associate professor of history with Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) in Lexington, and teaches history in an adjunct capacity at the University of Kentucky. He is author of Lexington Country Club: A History of the First One Hundred Years, 1901-2001 by (Donning, 2004), and a co-author and compiler of Kentucky Through the Centuries (Kendall/Hunt, 2005).
