BCTC Recognized in Community College Week Magazine’s list of “Top 100 Associate Degree Producers”

LEXINGTON, KY (July 9, 2008) – Bluegrass Community & Technical College (BCTC) was ranked 18th in the 2008 Community College Week Magazine’s list of Top 100 Associate Degree Producers.  BCTC achieved the ranking in both “One-Year Certificates – All Disciplines” and “Two-Year Certificates – All Disciplines,” according to the magazine.

BCTC was also recognized by the magazine in a chart entitled “Big Leapers,” which included colleges that saw the biggest increase in associate degree production in the last five years.  According to the chart, BCTC awarded 123 associate degrees in 2003, 202 in 2004, 178 in 2005, 838 in 2006 and 923 in 2007.  BCTC’s percentage of increase, according to the magazine was 65.5 percent.

The rankings are based upon data reported by the institutions to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), which is collected by the National Center for Education Statistics.  Community College Week compared the average annual increase in associate degrees awarded between 2003 and 2007, the most recent years for which data is available.

BCTC has also been recognized for its transfer rate to four-year institutions by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.  More transfers in 2006-07 came from Bluegrass Community and Technical College (1,086) than from any other KCTCS college. Bluegrass was the largest feeder for four of the state’s universities (University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, Kentucky State University, and Northern Kentucky University). Overall, Bluegrass transfers account for nearly one fourth (24.3 percent) of all KCTCS transfers.
