Architectural Technology Students Assist in Renovation of Police Gym

LEXINGTON, KY (March 6, 2008) – Spending an entire weekend at a police station could be a college students worst nightmare, but the Bluegrass Community & Technical College’s American Institute of Architects Student (AIAS) chapter recently volunteered to do just that. The student organization was commissioned by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Division of Police to paint a new logo for the renovated police gym located on Old Frankfort Pike.

AIAS student members paint LFUCG Division of Police logo. The project began in December 2007 with on-site measurements and meetings resulting in a contract for the job. Students continued to meet over December and January gathering materials and creating drawings for the execution of the project. On February 22, 14 students met at and worked through Sunday, February 24 to complete the project, thus limiting the time the gym floor was unavailable.

Funds raised by the project will be used to sponsor two class trips. In March, students will visit  the largest privately owned home in America, the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina, and in May, they will explore Frank Lloyd Wright’s work and landmark buildings in Chicago.
