LEXINGTON, KY (December 11, 2007) – Bluegrass Community & Technical College’s (BCTC) licensed practical nursing students recently participated in their annual pinning ceremony. First held in 1893, the ceremony originates from Florence Nightingale an English nurse and pioneer. Nightingale was awarded the Red Cross of St. George for her selfless service to the injured and dying in the Crimean War. It was then she decided to extend that honor to her outstanding graduate nurses by presenting them with a medal for excellence.
