Award Winning Trans Am Created by BCTC Community & Technical College Student
LEXINGTON, KY (September 19, 2007) – Wade Flannery, an electronics student at Bluegrass Community & Technical College (BCTC) is a man of many technical talents. In fact the car he customized using those talents beat 460 other entries for Best of Show at the 2007 Trans Am Nationals. Flannery’s title earned him a feature article in “High Performance Pontiac Magazine”.
Flannery who was home schooled became a Machine Tool Technology student at BCTC before his high school graduation. After completing his associate degree in Machine Tool Technology he became employed at L-3 Communications. His new employer encouraged him to continue with his education by paying for classes. He began to take classes in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and after completing three semesters moved to electronics where he is currently seeking an Engineering Technologies degree with plans to transfer to EKU taking advantage of the 2+2 program for an Industrial Technologies degree.
In customizing his Trans Am, Flannery used his CAD skills to design custom parts and his machine tool skills to make the parts. His electricity electronics training aided him in wiring all the new age components into the car.
“My hands on education in various technical fields from BCTC makes me a more valuable employee and I feel will prove to be useful throughout my life” said Flannery.
Flannery plans to continue showing his Trans Am hoping to enter the Auto Rama next year in Detroit Michigan. His future projects include making two old school rat rods out of his 1940 Dodge truck and a 1946 Chevy truck.
