BCTC Dedicates Construction Technology Classroom in Honor of Kentucky Homebuilder
LEXINGTON, KY (May 9, 2007) – Bluegrass Community & Technical College (BCTC) and the Home Builders Association of Kentucky (HBAK) recently dedicated a construction technology classroom on the Leestown Campus in memory of Georgetown Builder Murray Riffee.
Riffee, who died suddenly of a heart attack in July of 2006, served as president of the Home Builders Association of Kentucky in 1997. In 2005 he presided over the first Kentucky Construction Career days with 1,200 high school students in attendance. He also taught a construction class at the former Central Kentucky Technical College now BCTC. At the time of his death, he was serving as chair of the HBAK Workforce Development Task Force. The Task Force recently secured a $300,000 grant from the National Home Builders Institute to recruit young men and woman to the construction industry.
“Mr. Riffee understood in order to develop a future construction workforce, investment needed to be made today. He was always there for our students, investing his time and talents. We are proud to dedicate this classroom to him,” said Claude Gross BCTC Carpentry Instructor.
The dedication ceremony was followed by an open house of the current construction technology program at BCTC Leestown Campus, Lexington.
