Georgetown-Scott County Advisory Board Set to Chart Course for Local Community and Technical College
LEXINGTON, KY (January 24, 2007) Bluegrass Community & Technical College (BCTC) has established an advisory board for its current programming and future campus in Georgetown-Scott County. The Advisory Board is composed of local individuals and company representatives who have an interest in BCTC and its programs. The mission of the advisory board will be to provide guidance, build awareness, and generate grassroots support for the local college campus.
I am pleased that these individuals have agreed to join the Advisory Board. They will help guide us so that BCTC in Georgetown-Scott County will be reflective of what this area needs in a community and technical college, said Dr. James Kerley, President/CEO of Bluegrass Community and Technical College.
The major focus of this advisory board will be the development of a new comprehensive campus in Scott County to provide additional postsecondary opportunities and offer advanced training for the regional manufacturing workforce. The new campus will offer residents the opportunity to take academic course work that will count toward a degree or certificate, or transfer to a four-year institution. In addition, a state-of-the-art Advanced Technology Center will provide training in maintaining and troubleshooting automated systems, assembly systems and manufacturing systems. Classes will be offered in a variety of methods. They will include online, short and customized, and traditionally structured courses.
The local community & technical college campus will enrich the lives of every citizen
in the area, attracting industry and opportunities for traditional as well as non-traditional students, said recently appointed Advisory Board Chair, Carrie Johnson, of Georgetown Community Hospital. I feel the development of this campus will be the most important thing that the community can do in the next five years to have the greatest impact on the future.
BCTC is currently offering general education classes in Georgetown at Royal Spring Middle School and the Advanced Technology Center is being temporarily housed in a building provided at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky.
