BCTC Licensed Practical Nursing Program Holds Pinning Ceremony for 31 Graduates

LEXINGTON, KY (January 9, 2007) – Bluegrass Community & Technical College (BCTC) New Nurseslicensed practical nursing students recently participated in their pinning ceremony.

First held in 1893, the ceremony, originates from Florence Nightingale an English nurse and pioneer. Florence Nightingale was awarded the Red Cross of St. George for her selfless service to the injured and dying in the Crimean War. It was then she decided to extend that honor to her outstanding graduate nurses by presenting them with a medal for excellence. The pinning is a proud tradition and rite of passage for the profession of nursing.
