One of a Kind Filmmaking Program “Script to Screen” Now Being Offered in the Bluegrass

LEXINGTON, KY (November 17, 2006) –Aspiring Kentucky filmmakers,  have reason to celebrate today with the announcement of the new  “Script to Screen” Filmmaking Program at Bluegrass Community & Technical College (BCTC).  Designed to help students gain a complete understanding of how all the filmmaking disciplines interact and collaborate in the cinematic arts classes will begin in January 2007.

The new certificate program is the result of the collaboration of BCTC, the Kentucky Film Lab, Kentucky Educational Television and members of the private sector. It is designed to meet the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development and Office of the Governor’s call for increased technical skills in the filmmaking industry in order to increase the potential and productivity of the Kentucky filmmaking community.

The project based education program will allow students to learn through intensive hands on projects. Industry professionals from across the country like Hollywood producer/director Michael Dugan, New York composer Kenny Landrum, and Hollywood screenwriter Brad Riddell will instruct students.

“I am thrilled about this new certificate program, specifically regarding how BCTC is stepping up the plate to meet a definite need in the film industry.  The beauty of this program is the fabulous partnerships and talented folks involved, extremely creative!” said Jim Kerley, President/CEO of Bluegrass Community & Technical College.

Screenwriting, directing, lighting, editing and distribution are just a few of the classes included in the 12-hour certificate program housed at the BCTC Regency Campus. As are all BCTC full time students the new “Script to Screen” students are eligible for financial aid, student housing, intramural sports and other student support services.
