PS 101 American Government (3) A survey of national government and the political process in the United States, with emphasis on the Constitution, the President, Congress and the judicial system. PS 212 Culture and Politics of the Third World (3) This course analyzes the politics of selected states in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Various bases of political cleavage and cooperation will be examined: ethnicity, language, social class and ideology. Cultural differences between Africa, Asia, and Latin America will be identified and their political implications explored, as well as differences within geo-cultural areas. PS 235 World Politics (3) A study of the most significant problems of world politics, including the fundamental factors governing international relations, the techniques and instruments of power politics, and the conflicting interests in organizing world peace. PS 255 State Government (3) An introduction to the institutions, political processes and policies of state governments, and the relationships of state governments with other levels of government in the United States. PS 271 Introduction to Political Behavior (3) The study of behavior in a political context; the analysis of basic behavioral concepts used in political science such as political roles, group behavior, belief systems, personality, power and decision-making. PS 280 Issues in Public Policy (3) An examination of selected major public problems, focusing on their nature, political ramifi cations and alternate methods of dealing with them. Policies covered will vary from semester to semester, but will include such areas as poverty, health care, energy, education, race relations environment, etc. Prerequisite: PS 101. |
