Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) held its 2012 Graduation Ceremony last Sunday at the Kentucky Horse Park Alltech Arena. More than 3,500 students, friends and family were in attendance.
BCTC President Dr. Augusta A. Julian presided over the commencement of graduates and Mr. Stu Silberman delivered the commencement address. Silberman was the superintendent of the Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) from 2004 to 2011 and he currently serves as the Executive Director of the Prichard Committee, a non-profit citizens group established in 1983 that advocates for excellence in education.
During his commencement address, he encouraged the students to build on their strengths and manage their weaknesses.
"Always do right and love what you do," Silberman said. He also encouraged the students to stay on the cutting edge of technology and to be leaders in their communities.
More than 2,000 students received degrees, diplomas or certificates for the 2011-12 academic school year during the ceremony. This was the first year that BCTC held its graduation at the Kentucky Horse Park Alltech Arena.
