Selective Admission: Associate Degree Nursing (to become an RN)

The process for applying is a “Complete Application Packet” format. Students must submit all documents below in one envelope to be considered for the program. Even if you have applied before and/or are currently enrolled, we will need all documents resubmitted to the Office of Admissions, room 200 Oswald Building, Cooper Campus by February 15, 2013 for the Fall 2013 class in order to be considered for admission. Advanced standing applicant deadlines can be found in the advanced standing section below. Only complete packets will be processed and considered for the program.

Initial Admit

Gather all of the documents required below for consideration to the Associate Degree Nursing (to become an RN) program and place them in one envelope:

Create a Selective Admissions System account. Once you have an active account you can print a program checklist to begin the process. You must submit the checklist with your packet.
Students who are currently enrolled in classes at BCTC must submit a complete packet of all documents listed here. Students who are not currently enrolled in classes at BCTC must fill out an application for admission and a complete packet of all documents.
An official high school transcript or official passing GED scores. Transcripts must show a date of graduation and official seal or signature. This is also required for students with college course work.
Official scores of the National League for Nursing (NLN-PAX-RN) Pre-Admission Test current within three years. Frequently Asked Questions about the NLN Exam
Official transcripts of all post-secondary education attempted. Transcripts must be submitted from EACH college or university previously attended and must show every period of enrollment. Transcripts from the Kentucky Community and Technical College System do not need to be submitted.
In order to be considered for admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program, each applicant must attend a mandatory preadmission conference. Please refer to the preadmission conference website for further information. Additionally, you may view the Admissions Associate Degree Nursing (to become an RN) PowerPoint to review admission requirements. For general program information, you may also review the program information presentation. However, please note that viewing these documents do not meet the standard for the required preadmission conference, you must still attend a preadmission conference.

Reminder: Incomplete packets will not be accepted. Please turn in your packet to the Office of Admissions, Cooper Campus, by February 15, 2012. Please allow 10 business days to process your application to the Associate Degree Nursing (to become an RN) program. You will receive an automated e-mail informing you when your packet has been processed. To check on the status of your application you will need to login to your Selective Admissions System account. Advanced Standing

Applicant Deadlines:

Spring 2013 - November 9, 2012
Summer 2013 - April 12, 2013
Fall 2013 - June 14, 2013

Students must meet one of the follow criteria to apply as an advanced standing applicant: 1) be an LPN that has practiced at least one full year within the past three years and holds a current unrestricted license for practical nursing, 2) be a currently enrolled practical nursing student within KCTCS, 3) or have taken Nursing clinical courses within the past three years at BCTC or another academically accredited institution. Please note enrollment as an advanced standing student may be limited due to the availability of facilities, faculty, and/or resources. Each applicant must submit the following credentials to the Bluegrass Community and Technical College Office of Admissions by the posted deadline in order to be considered for advanced standing admission:

Written letter to the Associate Degree Nursing Program Coordinator indicating your desire to pursue the Associate Degree Nursing program, the semester you are seeking admission, your Nursing academic coursework and clinical background, which campus you are seeking admission, as well as your name, mailing address, phone number and social security number. (This is the first step in this admissions process. You must meet with the Program Coordinator to submit your letter and a copy of your transcript. The coordinator will determine which Nursing course and semester you will need to apply for as the Nursing clinical courses are only offered in sequence during specific semesters.)
A letter of recommendation from previous Nursing faculty if you are a PN graduate outside of a KCTCS school, or you are transferring from another Nursing clinical program. (If you are a readmit Bluegrass Associate Degree Nursing student, you will need to submit two letters of recommendation from Bluegrass Nursing faculty.)
A copy of your PN licensure if you are currently practicing as an LPN.
