Toyota Now Accepting Applications for Fall 2013 Semester

Toyota is now accepting applications for its Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) Program for the fall 2013 semester.  Deadline is April 30, 2013. 

If you will be a 2013 high school graduate and looking for a career opportunity, this is an exciting opportunity to begin your career with one of the top automotive manufacturers.  Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky in partnership with Bluegrass Community and Technical College – Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC) work together to educate and train the next generation of manufacturing technicians to have globally competitive skills.

Toyota is looking for high school students and veterans to participate in their AMT Program.  Completion of this program can lead to a challenging and rewarding career with great benefits and great pay in automotive manufacturing. Students in the program work at Toyota in Georgetown at least 24 hours a week while attending the Toyota required program educational courses at the AMC 16 hours a week.

The selected students earn an income while in the program with opportunities for pay increases, as well as earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology at the completion of the program. The courses of study are identified by Toyota as the most critical courses necessary to become a top flight multiskilled maintenance technician in an advanced manufacturing operation.

Once students complete the AMT portion of the program they are eligible to continue to the advanced path of additional technical training, including training on robots, machine communication systems, laser vision technology, programmable controllers, and more. Continued success can lead to a full-time internship at the Georgetown plant (at higher pay), an unparalleled opportunity for those gaining their first degree through a community technical college.

This dual work/study role broadens the student’s education and reinforces the academic learning. Selected applicants begin the work portion of the program on the production line and transition to maintenance. Students have an opportunity to learn “lean” manufacturing principles and develop productive work behaviors that provide excellent self-development skills that are very attractive to employers. The course work implements the multidisciplinary, multiskilled model with courses in electricity, fluid power, mechanics, fabrication, troubleshooting, problem solving, etc.

Program Eligibility Requirements

Selection of the candidates are made by Toyota personnel and will be based on academic record, ACT/SAT scores, written essay response, and other factors the manufacturer deems relevant to program performance.

To apply and participate in this program, you must:

• Be 18 years of age by Program start date
• Be a current graduating high school senior
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Must be willing to apply to and able to meet the admission requirements of Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) (Application to BCTC is a separate process)
• Must attend BCTC’s Georgetown-Scott County Advanced Manufacturing Center while in the program
• Submit high school transcript
• Submit ACT/SAT scores
• Submit high school counselor’s report of expected graduation quintile.
• Complete and submit a written essay on:
  “Why I Want To Obtain a Degree and Work in a Multidisciplinary Manufacturing Operation.”

Continued Eligibility Requirements

Criteria for continuing in the program include:

• Minimum of C or better in all technical courses throughout the program
• Minimum of “satisfactory” on all work evaluations throughout the program
• 2.0 or better GPA
• BCTC course requirements met
• Normal progress in the program

Program Financial Opportunities

• Starting salary at $12 per hour with pay increases to $16 per hour by the completion of the program.  Pay increases are  based on work performance evaluation and academic performance (this is considered income and subject to all applicable wage guidelines
• Attendance incentive of up to $1000 per semester for four semesters (up to $2,000 per year) based on Toyota’s incentive criteria.
