Grant funding continues to support a variety of special programs and initiatives at Bluegrass Community and Technical College.

 

          

 

New grants in 2008-2009:

 

  • National Science Foundation - $150,000 for expansion of the Machine Tool Technology program to include waterjet cutting technology.

  • Winchester campus - $335,000 in Congressionally-directed funds for equipment and technology at the new Winchester-Clark County campus.

  • Lucille Little Foundation - $40,000 for film arts and theatre program.

  • Kentucky KnowHow2Go - $10,000 from the KY College Access Network for Hispanic/multicultural outreach initiatives.

  • Adult Education Career Connections -  $75,000 to provide adult basic education and nurse aide training for career pathways.

  • Kentucky Real Estate Education Commission - $35,000 for BCTC Community Education department to train realtors to provide financial literacy training in local high schools.

 

Major grants continued in 2008-2009:

  •  Department of Labor Community-Based Job Training - $1.4 million for expansion of BCTC’s nursing program.  This project is also being funded with a $1 million grant from the Bluegrass Workforce Investment Board.

  • National Science Foundation - $500,000 grant for the Science Excel program to provide scholarships and student support for science majors.

  • Title III Transfer Center – A five-year grant totaling $1,467,000 from the U.S. Department of Education is funding a transfer center at BCTC works to increase transfer rates of BCTC students to four-year institutions and increase articulation agreements as well as establish a tracking system.

  • Adult Basic Education – Over $1.2 million in grant funds from Kentucky Adult Education helped to provide classes in GED, Learn to Read, and English as a Second Language to over 5,500 people in Fayette County.

  • Talent Search and Upward Bound – Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, these programs provide support services to disadvantaged middle and high school students to encourage their enrollment in college.
