Manufacturing and Machining Technology

Georgetown-Scott County and its surrounding counties has seen phenomenal growth in recent years, both in population and its manufacturing base. Bluegrass Community and Technical College has also experienced an increase in the number of students from Scott County and the workforce training requests from the local manufacturing sector. To meet both needs, a new comprehensive campus is being developed in Scott County to provide additional postsecondary opportunities and offer advanced training for the regional manufacturing workforce.

The new campus will offer residents the opportunity to take academic course work that will count toward a degree or certificate, or transfer to a four-year institution. In addition, a state of the art Advanced Technology Center will provide training in maintaining and troubleshooting automated systems, assembly systems and manufacturing systems. Classes will be offered in a variety of methods. They include online, short and customized, and traditionally structured courses.

Initial Concept

The Scott County Campus’ proposed first building will be a 80,000 square foot facility. It will have a 26,400 sq. ft. high bay area for state-of-the art, real-world training. It will also have 8 classrooms and a science lab to support general education courses. The total estimated cost for this facility is $20 million.

Current Status

The legislature in 2006 designated $1.5 million to design the campus and Omni Architect has been selected to develop the plan. The Scott County Fiscal Court has made a financial commitment towards land in the Industrial Park. An advisory board has been established with community and industry leaders.  Temporary sites have been located.  General education classes were offered this year in Royal Springs Middle School in Scott County. The Advanced Technology Center has been established in space allocated by Toyota.
