Spring 2007

Great news everyone!

Our Phi Theta Kappa chapter was very well represented at this year’s KY Regional Convention. Friday night was spent socializing and enjoying a meal at Gatti Town in Lexington.  Participants were able to relax watching the Lion King (an Honors Study Topic film) and playing arcade games – past the closing hour!!!

On Saturday morning, Dr. Kerley was present to extend his welcome to the participants from across the state. Katie Clark, former Alpha Phi Kappa President, and Maria Church, current President, presented Dr. Kerley with an Honorary Membership to Phi Theta Kappa along with a plaque on behalf of the chapter and advisors for his continued support of our student organization. For lunch, Dr. Hellmich delivered a stirring address discussing the challenges of being an ethical leader in our personal lives, both at school and throughout our community.

Our chapter received the followi

  • Regional Leadership Hallmark Award
  • Regional Service Hallmark Award
  • 2006 Pinnacle Platinum Chapter Award
  • 2006 Pinnacle Silver Chapter Award
  • Three Level Award in the Five-Star Program

Personal awards included:

  • Advisor Laura Williams – Horizon Award
  • Advisor Karen Mayo – Horizon Award
  • Esther Hulshizer – KY-All State Academic Team
  • Maria Church – KY-All State Academic Team
  • Maria Church – New Century Scholar (Kentucky)

Dr. Kerley and Maria Church will be traveling to Tampa, FL from April 14 – 16, to attend the American Association of Community Colleges Conference where Maria will receive a $2000 scholarship for being named the state’s New Century Scholar.

Finally, our chapter was presented with a beautiful plaque by PTK Headquarters for being the host chapter for the KY Regional Convention.

Congratulations again to everyone for the tremendous support of our chapter!
