More than 400 students from area high schools will visit their local Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) campus during the week of Feb. 24. The week-long activities are part of a Kentucky Community and Technical College statewide program to encourage more youth to attend college called Super Sunday, which is Feb. 23 at area churches. The campus visits, dubbed, Super Someday, are an extension of the Super Sunday initiative. Being on campus will provide African-American, Latino and other students who may not consider college an option a chance to experience campus life.
While on campus, students will visit classrooms to learn about programs such as Criminal Justice and Film Studies, attend a fair showcasing different college services, be treated to lunch and have an opportunity to win prizes. Ministers from several area churches will speak about the benefits of education and will promote the campus events at their churches on Super Sunday.
The campus visit schedule is as follows:
The Super Someday events begin at 10 a.m. and end at approximately 12:30 p.m. For more information, contact Charlene Walker, vice president for Multiculturalism and Inclusion, at (859) 246-6438. For more information about Super Sunday, visit http://www.super-sunday.org.
