Transfer Madness is Huge Success for KCTCS and Other Postsecondary Institutions

Versailles, Ky.  (March 11, 2013)— Transfer Madness, Kentucky’s first statewide online transfer college fair, scored a slam dunk on March 6. More than 2,400 students registered for the
12-hour event designed to connect them with transfer advisors, scholarship information, financial aid, and more at statewide institutions.

“Transfer is definitely a team sport and in order for our students to successfully make the transition they need a team of committed and talented players working for them...both at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and at four-year institutions,” said KCTCS Chancellor Jay Box. “Transfer Madness provided that team support in a comfortable, safe environment.”

KCTCS, along with 26 of Kentucky’s four-year institutions and the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education collaborated for Transfer Madness. Of the more than 1,600+ who attended the online event, 46.8 percent were from Kentucky and 50.3 percent were current college students. Transfer Madness supports the Council’s Stronger by Degrees strategic plan to improve the quality of Kentucky’s workforce by increasing the number of students who transfer from KCTCS colleges to four-year institutions. One of the goals of House Bill 160 (2010) is to eliminate the barriers students encounter when trying to transfer to a four-year institution, and one of the barriers is a lack of information and engagement between students and transferring institutions.

Last year, 600 students participated in on-site transfer fairs.

Students who missed out on Transfer Madness are encouraged to contact the transfer advisors at the four-year campuses of their choice. Students can also check to see how their general education credits transfer and count toward a bachelor’s degree by visiting http://www.KnowHow2Transfer.org.
