KCTCS Board of Regents Approves Name Change for Bowling Green Technical College

Dec 07, 2012 - | 12:42 PM -

Versailles, Ky.(December 7, 2012) - The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) Board of Regents approved Southcentral Kentucky  Community and Technical College as the new name for Bowling Green Technical College (BGTC) today during its regularly scheduled meeting.

An extensive community-based process that generated 295 names was utilized to solicit and identify possibilities for a name that would reflect the expanded mission of BGTC.  In 2010, the college was granted status by the Southern Association on Colleges and Schools as a comprehensive community and technical college allowing them to offer associate in arts and associate in science degrees.

“The Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College name represents both the pride of citizens throughout the south central region of the state and the new mission of the college,” said P.G. Peeples, chair of the KCTCS Board of Regents.

In addition, the board received positive results from the KCTCS annual independent financial audit for fiscal year 2011-2012. The opinion issued by Dean Dorton Allen Ford, PLLC was an “unqualified opinion,” the highest opinion offered by public accounting firms. KCTCS has received an unqualified opinion every year since its inception in 1998.

“We are extremely pleased with the outcome of this audit,” said P.G. Peeples, chair of the KCTCS Board of Regents. “It clearly demonstrates KCTCS’ commitment to strong stewardship and fiscal responsibility, which is key to accomplishing our role in transforming the state’s economy by providing a pathway to higher education for a majority of Kentuckians.”

Other action taken by the KCTCS Board of Regents included:

  • Ratification of the approval of 21 new credit KCTCS occupational-technical certificates and diplomas;
  • Approval of nine new programs including:
    • Associate in Integrated Engineering Technology for Bluegrass Community and Technical College.
    • Associates in Applied Science in Instructional Design and Learning Technology and Paramedic Technology for Gateway Community and Technical College;
    • Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Diesel Technology for Hopkinsville Community College; and
    • Associates in Applied Science (AAS) in Energy Management, Funeral Service, Healthcare Technology Management, Human Services, and  Paralegal Technology for Madisonville Community College;
  • Approval of 8,869 candidates for credentials (certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees) between July 24, 2012 and October 4, 2012. These include:
    • 5,993 candidates for certificates,
    • 599 candidates for diplomas, and
    • 2,277 candidates for associate degrees.

The next KCTCS Board of Regents meeting will be March 15, 2013, at the KCTCS System Office in Versailles.
