Summary of KANS Activities for School year 2004-2005

The BCTC KANS group had an active year. The outgoing officers organized the first fundraiser for the group, a stethoscope sale, Fall 2004. It was successful and the current officers are now planning to repeat and expand the stethoscope sale for Fall 2005.

A new group of officers were elected. The President, Cheryl Pedigo and Vice-President, Shauna Parks, attended the State KANS convention in November as registered delegates. Eileen Kelty,  KANS faculty advisor, was a member of the nursing scholarship selection committee at the convention.

Several members of the second year students in KANS sponsored a speaker series for the second year students. The topics and speakers were: "Preparing for Interview" by Linda Yonts, RN, MSN Second year faculty; "Comfort Touch, an intervention for terminally ill and fragile elderly patients" by Eileen Kelty, RN, MSN, First year faculty; "Common Legal Issues" A lawyer from Savage, Elliot, Moore, Mullins & Erdmann law firm; and the last one entitled " Spirituality and End of Life Care" presented by Paula Damron, RN and France Ulrich, Chaplain from Hospice of the Bluegrass.

As a community service project in December,  first year students collected canned and paper goods for the Ronald McDonald House. They were also able to sponsored a guest speaker, Kathy Isaacs, RN, BSN, and a former BCTC graduated.  She presented "Care of the Premature Infant in NICU".

The Chapter will continue with fundraisers for the 2005-2006 school year. Members plan to use fundraising profits to help defray costs at the next KANS convention, which is held in the fall.
