AAS Degree - Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education

Upon completion of this program, the graduate can:

  1. Design, implement and manage an inclusive developmentally appropriate program for young children.
  2. Interact effectively with young children in group settings.
  3. Exhibit an understanding of typical and atypical development and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  4. Exhibit knowledge of various learning theories and their applications.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to employ effective classroom management skills.
  6. Collaborate effectively with families and colleagues.
  7. Assess a child’s progress in physical, social, emotional and cognitive areas using a variety of methods.
  8. Display an understanding of the importance of social, economic, physical and cultural forces in the world today.
  9. Communicate effectively using standard written English.
  10. Communicate in a clear oral and non-verbal fashion and employ active listening skills.
  11. Demonstrate basic skills in computer operations and/or software applications.
  12. Organize, analyze and make information useful by employing mathematics.
  13. Demonstrate an awareness of one’s interaction with the biological/physical environment.
  14. Demonstrate an awareness of self as an individual, as a member of a multicultural society, and/or as a member of the world community.
  15. Recognize the impact of decisive ideas and events in human heritage.
  16. Develop and perform basic search strategies and access information in a variety of formats, print and non-print.
  17. Analyze, summarize and interpret a variety of reading materials.
  18. Think critically and make connections in learning across the disciplines.
  19. Elaborate upon knowledge to create new thought, processes and/or products.
  20. Demonstrate an awareness of ethical considerations in making value choices.

Certificate - Early Childhood Administrator (Director’s Credential)

Upon completion of this program, the graduate can:

  1. Interact effectively with young children in group settings.
  2. Exhibit an understanding of typical and atypical development and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to employ effective classroom management skills.
  4. Collaborate effectively with families and colleagues.
  5. Assess a child’s progress in physical, social, emotional and cognitive areas using a variety of methods.
  6. Communicate effectively using standard written English.
  7. Communicate in a clear oral and non-verbal fashion and employ active listening skills.

  9. Demonstrate an awareness of ethical considerations in making value choices.
  10. Identify management techniques required for successful operation of an early childhood program.
  11. Explain the impact of a quality initiative on an early childhood program.
  12. Assess the advantages and disadvantages of opening and operating an early childhood program.

Certificate - Child Care Assistant (Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential)

Upon Completion of this program, the graduate can:

  1. Exhibit an understanding of typical and atypical development and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to employ effective classroom management skills.
  3. Assess a child’s progress in physical, social, emotional and cognitive areas using a variety of methods.
  4. Communicate effectively using standard written English.
  5. Communicate in a clear oral and non-verbal fashion and employ active listening skills.
  6. Demonstrate an awareness of ethical considerations in making value choices.
  7. Identify management techniques required for successful operation of an early childhood program.
  8. Demonstrate an awareness of ethical considerations in making value choices.

And, depending on the 3-hour course that is selected to complete the credential, one or more of the following competencies:

  1. Interact effectively with young children in group settings.
  2. Exhibit knowledge of various learning theories and their applications.
  3. Display an understanding of the importance of social, economic, physical and cultural forces in the world today.
  4. Demonstrate an awareness of self as an individual, as a member of a multicultural society, and/or as a member of the world community.

Certificate - KY Child Care Provider (Commonwealth Child Care Credential)

Upon completion of this program, the graduate can:

  3. Assess a child’s progress in physical, social, emotional and cognitive areas using a variety of methods.
