Office Mission

The Office of Institutional Research provides the timely, accurate reporting of data and information to all units of the College and to external parties as needed. The Office facilitates the collection, analysis, and interpretation of institutional data.  Its primary purpose is to provide information to support student success, strategic planning, decision making, and the greater mission of Bluegrass Community and Technical College.

Role and Purpose of the Office

The Institutional Research office is responsible for the management of Bluegrass Community and Technical College institutional data through the PeopleSoft information system. This includes extracting and supplying data for internal processes such as:

  • Enrollment management;
  • Needs analyses;
  • Customer satisfaction measures;
  • Strategic plannning;
  • Academic program health reviews;
  • Day-to-day operations of the College.

The Office functions as a resource for collecting information regarding programs and services provided by the College in order to identify models of success and areas for improvement.  The Office develops and maintains data instruments/surveys, software and integrity measures necessary to collect & manage College data.  This information may be collected from:

  • Faculty;
  • Staff;
  • Students;
  • Alumni/ae;
  • The greater community.

Institutional Research also serves as the College’s point of contact for reports and surveys requested from governmental and commercial agencies including:

  • U.S. Department of Education reports (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System - IPEDS);
  • Kentucky's Center for Post-Secondary Education (CPE);
  • Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS);
  • Carl D. Perkins Grand funding (Technical Education Database System - TEDS)

 

Goals for 2009-2010:

1. Provide data to support ongoing monitoring of the SACS re-accreditation process:

  • Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) data;
  • Assessment data (for program/department health review and other requests);
  • Other data as requested.

2. Support Customer Service initiatives within Bluegrass Community & Technical College: 

  • Continue to assist work units with assessment initiatives; 
  • Complete Student Satisfaction Pilot Survey and revise survey design for full implementation in 2010-2011;
  • Implement Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) and Faculty/Staff Climate Survey;
  • Participate in other ways as needed.

3. Identify innnovative ways of communicating information available from Institutional Research: 

  • Factbook; 
  • Train, increase faculty and staff awareness of Decision Support System (DSS) Dashboards;
  • Develop survey management system.

4. Participate in, support external professional organizations: 

  • Southeastern Association for Community College Research (SACCR);
  • KCTCS IR/IE Peer Team;
  • Kentucky Association for Institutional Research;
  • Other professional organizations.
